Do you remember Lewis Howes, a famous American New York Times bestselling author and how he succeeded to be a great author and entrepreneur with the help of his middle school teacher? Was that inclusive education that made him a successful entrepreneur and NY Times bestselling author? The answer is both! Yes and No.
Yes, because he was studying in the "inclusive education" and no because it was a different "inclusive education". Howes was forcefully sent to the special ed classes after he failed several exams in his eighth grade. The other reason was that he faced difficulty in reading words. He tested as a 2-grade reading level.
This forceful shift of him in special education was like a watershed. His life took a turn from there, an absolute change. His new teacher Mrs Green helped him out with his problem and worked on it with him. She gave her the hope that nothing was impossible and also told him that Tony Robbins quoted that "Whatever you believe, you can achieve". It provoked Lewis and, from then on his, life started to go uphill. After the flop of his first book, Lewis was even more persistent and, his second book was a huge victory. It turned out to be his very first break. After then he became NY Bestselling Author.
Had he been into that class only, he would never have been able to become so successful in life, take a long flight and, soar high. But the thing doesn't just end here. Many students around the globe do not belong to special education all they require is some extra. Extra attention, extra practice and some extra time.
The concept of inclusive education is about teaching a diverse group of students side by side in a similar classroom. But the terminology of "Diverse" has a different epistemology lying behind it. In a class, students of diverse learning capacities are there. Some learn things quickly whereas, for some, it takes time to be able to apprehend those same things.
Some analysis made by the researchers of several famous universities claims that most of the studies are only concerned with "certain" groups of students. And that only a limited number make use of those collaborative and transformative approaches. Something, which is the most debated topic is that concentrating on only a specific group of students is against the protocol of inclusive education. This form of education will create a discrepancy among the other groups of students. Because some are over-achievers, nonetheless some are "not so over-achievers".
To rejuvenate a new form of "Inclusive Education" will help all students globally to be able to get involved in all activities that happen in their classrooms. It will help us create a new environment in the classrooms. It will help all types of students irrespective of their learning capacity to, mix up and grab all the opportunities equally. It will mean real learning opportunities for those groups who have been traditionally excluded. Not just only children with disabilities but the speakers of minority languages too.
It is high time when we have realised the value of revamping the inclusive education system. It is because out in there many students like Lewis Howes are waiting to be successful but not many are getting the chance to soar.
Need of the hour.
We really need to change the education system now.... It's high time now
