Shari Arison once rightly said also I quote, "Matters of the heart are important to me. All this materialism and all the money and wealth are things that you don't take to the grave. One day you have it. The next day you don't." Materialism is the preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values. In today's modernised world everyone is only materialistic. Intentionally or unintentionally we judge people by their possessions and not by their talents or skills. We use to judge people by what brand they purchase from, which car they own, whether they possess Apple merchandises or not.
Indeed in schools and colleges, we judge others by which bag they have. If their bag and other school supplies are neat and tidy. For instance, let's take a typical example. In a wedding or any get-together, we tend to judge someone's social status by what they are carrying. Whether their Tuxedos or dresses are rented or their own. We pay an extraordinary attentiveness to others appearance, notably their grooming and attire. Jewellery is also something that features on the top in the list.
We all have certainly read the story of Wanda Petronski. It is purely based on the theme 'Materialism'. El Bsor Ester scrutinised materialism in her stories. She firmly considers that judging people based on their wealth and worldly possessions are wrong. Moreover, appearances can be deceptive. The features of an individual may have a frayed look. But unquestionably, that does not exhibit that persons inner self. A genius is always modestly at work without boasting or bragging about his or her creativity. Wanda's claim of being proud about possessing a hundred dresses eventually proved to be true when everyone gazed at the exquisite hundred designs carved out by her.
One may be destitute in terms of wealth but one undoubtedly can have an inner copiousness that is challenging to attain in life. All these worldly possessions may give one social standing for a while but they don't last for long. The enduring thing in one's life is one's worth or talents counter products to society. Wanda will forever be remembered for her remarkable talent.
The girls of room 13 were profoundly influenced by the demon of materialism. To such an extent that it made Wanda immigrate to another city. Therefore one's appearance can be misleading.
Another beautiful story is "The Necklace" by Guy De Maupassant. The major theme of `The Necklace' is materialism. Matilda's illusions of having material wealth lead her and her husband into a state of poverty, making her more hardworking and responsible in the end. Exorbitant desires can prove to be ruinous as it did in the case of the Loisels. Matilda had sufficient to live with dignity. But her desire for excesses and extravagance deprived her of even of the scarce that she had. Matilda never liked to visit her friend Mme Forestier because she was affluent.
I would like to conclude my speech by saying," Wearing unbranded and cheap clothes doesn't mean that you are poor. Remember: You have a family to feed. Not a community to impress." By Emma Watson.
Very well conveyed. Loved it
This is something which needs to b me taught to the generation now. Really nice 👏👏👏👍👍👍
It is as simple as never judge a book by its cover📝
So rightly said by emma watson 💗💗
